Although a conducive learning environment like a proper school building and compound is ideal and important for a child's education progress, these are often not the case in poor countries. Often, there are also other elements that provide support and ease of learning progress that are overlooked such as school supplies, school uniforms, shoes and proper health care.
Project GIVE started its first initiative in 2010. The year 2011 will see Project GIVE continuing its efforts in a small way to support the cause of education and hopes that it will continue what it does in the years to come. Following the concept of one-project-a-year, Project GIVE is currently focusing its efforts on a small remote school - "the Jhakrapuri Primary School" which located in a mountain village in Gorkha, Nepal. It currently has 75 students from Grade 1 to Grade 5
Current Project for 2011
Why school uniforms?
The concept of school uniforms is essential in serving two purposes - to instill a sense of belonging and pride in the school and most of all to eliminate any idea of competition in the matter of personal dressing. Additionally, a school uniform also ensures the child is comfortable and will enable him or her to concentrate its energy fully in learning. In most school systems, a child without a school uniform is usually unable to attend school and remains marginalised.
How much does it cost to sponsor a school uniform in this project?
The cost of a school uniform is expensive for some parents. Thus, due to survival, school uniforms are usually not as important as the next meal. However, you can help purchase a school uniform for a poor child at an inexpensive cost.
A gift of RM35 (USD11.50) from you is enough to buy a school uniform for the underprivileged child and keep him or her in school for at least 2 years.
Project GIVE buys cotton materials from the local community and hires a local tailor to sew the uniforms. The materials required to sew a set of uniform (shirt and pants or shirt and skirt) costs RM28 and the cost of tailoring per uniform is RM7. Thus your donation/sponsorship not only benefits the children but the local businesses as well.
How many school uniforms are there to be sponsored?
There are 75 children in the school where Project GIVE is assisting.
Total number of uniforms required: 75 sets
Total number of sponsorship taken: 20 sets
Balance of uniforms requires sponsorship: 55 sets
